In mid-October, we visited the SICAM 2024 furniture fittings and interior products fair held in Pordenone, Italy. The fair featured 692 companies from 34 different countries. The exhibits were interesting, focusing on innovative and sustainable solutions.
This year’s fair had a large representation of companies offering recessed socket and charging accessory solutions for worktops, tables, and upholstered furniture. The materials used for these accessories were of very high quality and made as thin as possible to avoid creating unnecessary surface irregularities.
In terms of materials, there were companies offering both solid wood and panel materials. The solid wood selection primarily included oak, ash, and walnut, available as planks or processed to specific dimensions according to customer requirements. The panel materials stood out with very novel surface finishes and decors, available both as pressed particleboard and MDF.
As expected, the fair featured many companies offering furniture fittings such as slides, hinges, furniture legs, and connectors. A novel drawer slide solution from the company Reme was noteworthy, where no separate fittings are needed to attach the drawer slides to the cabinet. Instead, corresponding slots are milled into the cabinet using a CNC machine, and the drawer slide is pushed in. Another interesting find was special fittings developed for connecting lightweight board furniture components.
At the SICAM 2024 fair, an important topic for the furniture industry was packaging materials and their environmental sustainability. Several companies offered innovative solutions, including products made from lightweight cardboard and composite materials, suitable for both protecting furniture corners and as filler material. These solutions help reduce environmental impact and support sustainable production.
